OHS Brahmans defeat Eau Gallie in Melbourne

OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee and Eau Gallie combined for 97 points and 13 touchdowns in an offensive shootout as the Brahmans improved to .500 with a 52-45 victory Friday in Melbourne.

It was the second straight week where the Brahmans had an offensive explosion. Okeechobee had scored a school record 65 points in a victory over Bayside last Friday.

The game was in doubt until the final minute when Malcolm Chambers clutched an onside kick to his belly to keep Eau Gallies high powered offense off the field.

Okeechobee had led by as many as 21 points in the second half only to hold on after Eau Gallie tried to rally.

Antywyn ‘Bubba’ Fludd threw two touchdown passes and added a 24-yard touchdown run for Okeechobee, (4-4). Lamar Williams surpassed 1,000 yards rushing on the season with over 200 yards and a 16-yard score for Okeechobee.

Eau Gallie (4-4) scored 24 points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough.

Jajuan Cherry ran for two touchdowns and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass in the game for Okeechobee.

Jarrett Mills hit a 42-yard field goal for Okeechobee. Matt Stevens hit a 22-yard field goal for Eau Gallie.

The two teams combined for 1,048 yards in the game.

Jalen Shelton rushed for 115 yards on 17 carries after he sat out the first half for the Commodores. Tyvone Brooks rushed for 109 yards on 11 carries, and Matt Wilson passed for 229 yards for Eau Gallie.

For awhile it appeared that whoever would have the ball first would be the winner.

Okeechobee was helped by three Commodore fumbles in the first half as they took a 24-21 lead at the half. Cherry’s 4-yard touchdown run in the final 13 seconds gave Okeechobee the lead for good.

Okeechobee had 23 first downs while Eau Gallie had 19 first downs. Okeechobee was only able to force Eau Gallie to punt one time in the game.

Okeechobee took a 52-31 lead in the fourth quarter when Williams rushed for 52 yards on three consecutive runs.

Eau Gallie didn’t give up as they drove 79 yards in 14 plays and scored on a 6-yard run by backup full back Mario Harris. The Commodores recovered an onside kick with just over three minutes to play and drove 48 yards in nine plays to pull to within 52-45 with just over two minutes left. Eau Gallie tried the last ditch onside kick again but this time the Chambers was able to clutch the ball near midfield and put the game to bed.
