Pedestrian killed in traffic mishap

OKEECHOBEE — A 53-year-old pedestrian was killed Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle as he crossed S.R. 70, stated a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Oscar Santizo Rodriguez, of Okeechobee, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the press release Mr. Rodriguez was walking toward the south when, around 10:40 p.m., he walked into the path of a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by John Hufty, 82, of West Palm Beach.

Mr. Hufty was eastbound and in the inside lane of S.R. 70 near its intersection with S.W. Ninth Avenue at the time of the incident.

The cause of the Oct. 25 accident remains under investigation, added the release.
