OKEECHOBEE — Want to share your holiday greetings with the whole community?
The Okeechobee High School band will once again host the Holiday Cards in the Park display play.
Last year, the annual display of the giant holiday cards was cancelled due to the construction on State Road 70.
The deadline for entrants in the contest has been extended, so there’s plenty of time to make a giant card and share greetings from your family, business, club or school.
The cards will be displayed in Flagler Park and are seen by many members of our community as well as by individuals traveling through Okeechobee. The community is invited to participate.
For the cards, the OHS band will supply one sheet (white or clear) 4 ft. x 8 ft. corrugated plastic and electrical outlets.
Participants are responsible for the installation and removal, as well as any additional materials needed to construct and/or paint their own cards. Installation of signs will be completed by the band for an extra $100.
Each card must be at least 4 ft. x 8 ft., but no larger than 8 ft. x 8 ft. and can be displayed either horizontal or vertical.
Each card must contain a holiday message and/or appropriate theme and may contain the signature of one family, business or organization. No advertising is allowed, other than the business name.Participants must provide adequate lighting, extension cords and spotlight for their individual card. Christmas lights may be used in the design. The use of low voltage, fluorescent or LED lights is encouraged; there is a 60 watt limit per 4 ft. x 8 ft. sheet.
Card installations can be done with your own tools anytime.
There will be someone in the park from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, and Thursday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 5, from with post-hole diggers, screws and a cordless drill for your use, if needed.
Juding deadline will be announced at a later date.
Ribbons will be placed on the winning entries. Judges will award one Best in Show and one Committee Choice, as well as first, second and third overall.
This is a non-profit project benefiting the OHS band.
Funds raised by this event will be used to help with: general band expenses, individual students’ band expenses and to replace uniforms.
